Hurricanes, Floods, and Earthquakes: The Real Risks in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is exposed to natural risks that make property insurance a necessity, not a luxury. There are three key points every property owner should understand:
Hurricane Coverage- Most homeowners insurance policies in Puerto Rico include coverage for hurricane wind damage and the direct impact it causes to the structure. However, damage from rain entering indirectly—such as flooding—may be excluded.
Flood Insurance- Flood damage is not covered under a standard homeowners insurance policy. If your property is located in a flood-prone area or near bodies of water, you will need a separate flood insurance policy. We can guide you through available options in Puerto Rico.
Earthquake Coverage- Puerto Rico is located in an active seismic zone. Earthquake coverage is also not included in most standard policies and must be purchased as an additional endorsement.
